English in Tasmania
For a unique experience study English
in Tasmania at the Tasmanian College of English.
Welcome to Hobart and the Tasmanian College of English.
In a city renowned for its educational excellence, the Tasmanian College of English is Hobart’s first independent English language school, established in 1997 as part of the SACE group of colleges.
Our students represent a diverse range of nationalities from some 25 countries and are attracted by our wide selection of quality courses and exciting social programs.
Tasmania is a quiet, safe, unspoiled corner of Australia. Its people are friendly and hospitable, and there is a unique mix of cultures from all over the world, making Hobart an ideal place to study, relax, and explore.
The Tasmanian College Of English (SACE Hobart) is housed in a gracious three-story Heritage building, surrounded by magnificent gardens. Classrooms are comfortable, the student common room is large and includes a fully equipped kitchen, and a balcony overlooks the garden.
The campus is situated close to the cultural heart of the city, within easy walking distance of public transport, university, art centres, state library, as well as shopping malls, cafes, banks, cinemas and attractive parklands and gardens.
We look forward to introducing you to the un-paralleled beauty of Tasmania, Australia's Wilderness State.

Quality Learning Environment
The integrity of SACE courses is maintained through small class sizes and a balanced mix of student nationalities.
The College offers:
a wide range of courses, many of which can be
combined to suit particular student needs, including General English, Academic
Study Skills, Environmental Studies, Work Experience Programs, Volunteering,
English and Sailing, English and Diving, and more;
flexibility in course length and intensity;
regular student progress tests and evaluations;
a Self Access Centre to assist individual self-paced
learning, plus free Internet and Email access.
Our aim is to help you communicate in English as quickly and efficiently as possible. The courses are designed to develop speaking, listening, reading and writing skills and are carefully structured to improve your fluency and accuracy.
Supplementing classroom text books, we use television and radio programs, newspaper and magazine extracts, guest speakers and class excursions to give an essential "real life" perspective of the English language at work.
Classroom activities encourage communication. Our English In The Community Programs, plus our links with educational and community organisations provide practical language opportunities.
The SACE Teacher Training Division conducts regular teacher training seminars, guaranteeing teaching methods are up-to-date and of the highest quality.
Accommodation
The Tasmanian College Of English takes great care in selecting its homestay families. All homestay families are interviewed in their homes and briefed about our homestay program before acceptance as a homestay family. Students and homestay families are then matched according to both their needs.
After Hours
Club Tassie is a great way to make friends with fellow students and teachers. We organise a range of inexpensive, fun social activities for students both during the week and on weekends. Students may experience sea-kayaking, white-water rafting, bush walking or skiing, as well as the less adventurous activities such as golf, bike-riding along the riverside or tours of Hobart's historic buildings and art centres.
