Homestay Comments

Carrycord staff visit homestay birthday party.

To ensure that all necessary standards are met, Carrycord makes regular visits to homestay families.

Anna, the homestay Mom said " We really enjoy having international students. They bring a new dimension to our living. The interaction between the students and our children is just wonderful. Our children play different games with the students and this improves the level of English for the students. The gain for our children is that they learn all about other countries and their culture. We make lots of friends from overseas."

Single lady, one student

May is a single retired lady who lives at Randwick. Her children are grown up and live in Brisbane with their families. May has a cat and enjoys walking along the beach. The beach is only about ten minutes from Randwick. The thing that May enjoys most about hosting international students is their company. May likes to talk about her experiences when she travelled overseas. Many students come from the countries that May has visited so the student and May have many things to talk about.

Single lady, several students

Bev is a real estate agent. She has a very large house and usually accepts five international students. Bev tells us that it is just great to have guests from all parts of the world. A real international house.

Single lady with adult son

Brenda works in sales and has an interest in skiing. Her son is studying at university. Brenda has a large home only five minutes walking to the beach. Because the home is so large, Brenda is able to host six international students. This means that the students can go out together as a group or can be involved in the day to day life of the homestay. You choose. Brenda said that hosting six international students was terrific. Having six students from six different countries means that there is never a dull moment in her homestay. So many different cultures and ideas. We have a different meal from a different country almost every day. This leads to a better understanding between all our students of other countries and cultures.

Couple, no children, one student

Bob and Carol do not have children of their own. They live in a small house near to the train station and are only about 30 minutes from the city. Bob and Carol are both accountants and they work in the city. They enjoy hosting a student as they feel that the student brings their home to life. Not having a child of their own, they get a lot of joy seeing their student improving their English. They treat the student as if the student was their own child

Couple, no children, several students

Patrick and Helen live very close to downtown. Patrick is an printer and Helen is a nurse at a large hospital. They do not have children of their own and so enjoy hosting several international students. They host three students. Patrick said that hosting students was fun and they enjoyed the differences that the students bring to the homestay. We enjoy sports and invite our students to go surfing on the weekends during the summer. During winter, we go to the football. As we live only three minutes from the football stadium, we are able to enjoy this sport. Students are always invited to join in with our activities and many do get involved. Several students have run the City to Surf  fun run with this family. What an achievement!.

Couple with children, several students

Angus and Maryann are teachers. They have two children. Maryann said that it is very good to host students as her children have an interest in countries overseas and studying languages at school. The family enjoy playing golf and the students are always invited to join the fun and sport of playing golf. There are three golf courses very close to the homestay and the family play golf almost every weekend. The beach is near by, about ten minutes travel time. So after a good round of golf, we all go to the beach to cool off. This is a favourite activity for the family and naturally our students are invited to join us in these activities.
